Overview

B.Sc. (Hons) in Applied Economics is an undergraduate honours degree programme designed to create motivated, energetic, thinking and creative graduates to fill the roles as economists, financial analysts, bank and commerce professions, trade markets experts and professionals like economic chief consultants, financial examiners, statistician, operations research analysts, credit analysts, personal financial consultants, HR consultants, teachers, professors and researchers with additional qualification and training.

The curriculum is outcome based and it imbibes required theoretical concepts, analytical and practical skills in the domain. By understanding this programme, students develop application-oriented learning skills, critical, analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities for a smooth transition from academic to real life work environment. Integration of Economics and Data Science makes this programme unique. Important and relevant data science courses like R‑language, Python, Machine Learning, Optimisation techniques etc. are integrated with economics. Programme also include introductory and applied econometrics. Therefore, the programme entails theoretical constructs along with practical application of concepts and models.

The programme aims to provide the required critical and analytical skills for learners to ace solving real-world problems.

  • Foundational Courses (FC)

    Six foundational courses are offered as part of the programme to provide interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary perspectives for the students

  • Core Courses (CC)

    Core courses are offered as part of the programme to impart contemporary trends, theoretical understanding in the domain of economics.

  • General Electives (GE)

    General electives are courses chosen generally from an unrelated discipline/​subject, with an intention to provide exposure to contemporary developments and learnings across other disciplines.

  • Discipline Specific Electives (DSE)

    Courses related to the discipline of economics that are interdisciplinary in nature are offered.

  • Skill Enhancement Courses (SEC)

    SEC courses are value-based and skill-based that aims at providing hands-on-training, and competencies. These courses may be chosen from a pool of courses designed to provide value-based and/​or skill-based knowledge.

Candidate must have passed 10+2/PUC from a recognized state or central board with a minimum of 50 per cent in their qualifying exam. These courses are open to students from the Arts, Commerce and Science streams
