Overview

B.Sc. Psychology is an undergraduate degree programme designed to expose students to advanced concepts, developments, and techniques in the realm of psychology. The program’s curriculum has more of application-oriented learning, learner centric pedagogy, research driven curriculum which mainly focus on the mastery of basic principles, advanced concepts, developments, and techniques in the domain of psychology.

The curriculum is outcome based and it imbibes required theoretical concepts and practical skills in the domain. By undergoing this programme, students develop application-oriented learning skills, critical, analytical thinking, and problem-solving abilities for a smooth transition from academic to real-life work environment.

Students are trained in communication skills and interdisciplinary topics to enhance their scope. In addition, the students also can enrol into one-year Ramaiah Advanced Post Graduate Diploma which will give them a leading edged and make the students more versatile, generating wide range of opportunities including registering for master’s and Ph.D. programme in a chosen subject area, if one wishes to be considering teaching in a university.

Features like advanced teaching and learning resources, applied learning, research-based teaching, and experience of the faculty members with their strong connections with industry and business organizations makes this programme unique. 

Objective

  • The programme goal is to produce graduates with application-oriented learners, critical, analytical, and problem-solving skills, and ability to think independently, to pursue a career in psychology 
  • To impart knowledge, understanding and cognitive abilities in psychology, research, practice, and interdisciplinary courses 
  • To develop competencies and practical skills required for effective problem solving and right decision making in different activities relevant to psychology and behavioural sciences
  • The programme also embeds courses to train students on personal development and interactive skills with a feel for society

Highlights

  • FOUNDATIONAL COURSES (FC)

    Six foundational courses are offered as part of the programme to provide interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary perspectives for the students

  • CORE COURSES (CC)

    Core courses are offered as part of the programme to impart contemporary trends, theoretical understanding in the domain of psychology.

  • GENERAL ELECTIVES (GE)

    General electives are courses chosen generally from an unrelated discipline/​subject, with an intention to provide exposure to contemporary developments and learnings across other disciplines. 

  • DISCIPLINE SPECIFIC ELECTIVES (DSE)

    Courses related to the discipline of psychology that are interdisciplinary in nature are offered

  • SKILL ENHANCEMENT COURSES (SEC)

    SEC courses are value-based and skill-based that aims at providing hands-on-training, and competencies. These courses may be chosen from a pool of courses designed to provide value-based and/​or skill-based knowledge.

  • ABLITY ENHANCEMENT COMPULSORY COURSES (AECC)

    AECC are the courses based upon the content that leads to Knowledge enhancement (Environmental Science and English/​MIL Communication.). These courses are mandatory for all disciplines.

  • PROJECT DISSERTATION

    Individual students are expected on project dissertations during the Sixth semester of the program. Students are expected to undertake thesis work in a chosen relevant topic. The topic needs to be approved by a committee constituted by a HOD. The project dissertation carries a specified number of credits and expected hours of works across the semester. Later, students need to convert their thesis into a technical paper and publication to publish in reputed conferences or journals.
